With the ‘berms’ low level shelves now in place and the reject flint which will be topped with gravel rounding off the Frogmore corner, the river will be left to settle over the winter months.
In the spring of 2024, coir rolls will be placed on the ‘berms’ and planted with yellow irises, meadowsweet, water forget me not and other plants.
The wildlife has quickly adapted to the changes made – moorhens can be seen parading along the faggots, a kingfisher has been spotted perched on one of the new chestnut stakes, wagtails are seen in the shallower areas and the number of mallard ducks has doubled. The ducks spend part of the day dabbling in the area that has been created between the bank and the shelves for food and then rest patiently on one of the coir rolls for young and old to come by with tasty morsels.
The silt has already begun to dissipate in the shallower areas and the chalk bottom is becoming visible through the crystal clear water.
