We have secured funding from Exning Parish Council and Cambridgeshire Community Foundation’s Anglian Water Flourishing Environments Fund and work will begin in the summer of 2023.
The proposal is to stabilise the banks and narrow the river in the Duck Pond area with brushwood faggots chestnut stakes and coir rolls. The coir rolls will be planted with chalk stream plants like Water Mint, Meadow Sweet, Marsh Marigold, Purple Loosestrife, Geum, Flag irises, Water Crowfoot.
The work will be carried out by local volunteers. Aggregate will be used by the roadside wall to narrow the river at the Frogmore end. It is anticipated that these measures will help improve flow removing the silt and exposing the chalk bottom. The planting will increase the biodiversity which should see an increase in the water vole and insect populations, especially the Mayflies and Dragonflies.
