During the summer months the Purple Loosestrife, Water Avens and Water Forget Me Not have flowered profusely and been admired by the many people walking along Ducks Lane and sitting on the bench.
For the first time for many years it has not been necessary to augment the river with water from the Snailwell borehole; the past wet winter has meant that some of the Seven Springs have continued to flow all year. The water level dropped to 29 mm in September from its height of 54 mm in March.
A kingfisher is frequently seen flying under the road bridge and into the Duck Pond. He often stops on one of the boxwood perches that have been placed in the river. Have you seen him? Even more secretive is a heron who visits in the early mornings and has been caught on the wildlife camera catching and eating the red bellied sticklebacks.
